- Aggreko completes contract to supply a 20MW/ 13.8kV
power station in Santana, Amapa State, Brazil.
- Contracted by Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil
(Eletronorte), the 20MW power package was used to supplement the
grid supply during scheduled maintenance at the main thermal power
plant.
Aggreko plc, global leader in providing temporary power
generation and temperature control services today announced that it
has recently completed a contract to supply a 20MW / 13.8kV
temporary power station in Santana, located in the Amapa State in
Brazil.
Contracted by the state-owned utility, Centrais Eletricas do
Norte do Brasil (Electronorte), the Aggreko power package was used to alleviate
reduced hydropower in the region, as well as supplement the grid
supply during scheduled maintenance at the permanent power
plant.
Brazil is the third largest producer and consumer of electricity
in the Western Hemisphere, and electricity consumption is growing
at an annual rate of 3.2%. With the isolated electrical grid system
in the Amapa State generating 186MW of electricity, the retrofit of
the turbines #1 and #2 of Coaracy Nunes hydro power plant had
resulted in a shortfall.
To supplement this shortfall and allow maintenance to the
thermal units located at the 116MW main thermal power plant, the
20MW Aggreko power package was installed and operational just 45
days after the initial contract signing.
“It was a relief to have additional grid supply online so
quickly”, said Mr. Robinson Marques from Centrais Elétricas do
Norte do Brasil (Eletronorte) “Initially a 6 month contract, we
extended this a number of times knowing that we could rely on a
continuous and reliable power supply from Aggreko”
